Why Thread and Hook?

I wanted to share a bit of background on why Thread and Hook was started.

Recently, a well-loved fly pattern site was decommissioned, and with it, a lot of great content and community interaction disappeared. That got me thinking—there’s a real need for a space that’s dedicated solely to fly tying, patterns, fly swaps, and the craft itself.

Thread and Hook was created to be that space.

The goal is to build a community that’s as “open source” as possible. We’re committed to regularly backing up the forum to a public Amazon S3 bucket, so even if this space ever disappears, the content remains accessible to everyone. Your shared knowledge and contributions won’t just vanish.

We’re also keeping things as low-cost as possible. We’ll be posting a separate update with full transparency around hosting costs, donations, and how everything is managed financially.

This is a space built by and for the fly tying community—glad you’re here.
